Myofascial Therapy

mifacialreleaseMyofascial Therapy, or commonly referred to as Myofascial Release is a technique specifically aimed at treating and releasing the fascial system.

Slow myofascial release techniques are used to initiate a thixotropic phase change effect on fascia, allowing it to be manipulated, released and realigned.

Why is Myofascial Therapy and treating fascia so important?
Fascia is the gel-like connective tissue that surrounds all the structures of the body and is essential for efficient tissue glide. We find that problems with tissue sticking, resulting in reduced tissue glide, are one of the main causes of preserved muscle pain. In fact muscles are likely to be functioning correctly but the fascia which surrounds the muscle fibres and muscle has become stuck, leading to the formation of adhesions. Fascia also forms connected networks, which criss-cross the body and act to exert tension forces creating postural holding patterns. Releasing and correcting these fascial networks is essential to creating structural balance within the body.
